Tasting the “Triangle Wine Experience” during January Magnum Mondays

January is already here! It’s time to start your New Year with a bang, popping bottles at Marrow Magnum Mondays at Death & Taxes.

We have partnered with Triangle Wine Experience (TWE) and its supporters to bring you our January selections. Triangle Wine Experience [insert link to website] brings lovers of food and wine together in the triangle area. They host a series of winery dinners [link to Poole’s winery reservations] every winter that lead up to a Grand Gala and Auction in support of the Frankie Lemmon Foundation and School.

On January 7th, we’ll start our month of magnums with Failla Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast from our great friends at Failla winery.  This Pinot Noir from Sonoma Coast over delivers year after year with beautifully layered ripe berry fruit, sweet spices and rose petals.

On January 14th,  we’ll feature Blackbird Vineyards Arriviste Rosé. A glass of this sophisticated, dark-fruited rosé from our friends at Blackbird Vineyards will hit the spot with our tasty bone marrow. Who says you can enjoy rosé in the winter?

On January 21st, we are featuring a beautiful single vineyard expression of Pinot Noir from Davis Family Vineyards, Davis Family Dutton Ranch Pinot Noir.  The fruit for this wine comes from the Dutton Ranch Vineyard and has mouthwatering acidity, exotic fruit aromas and signature blueberry fruit flavor.

On January 28th, we’ll finish off our magnum month with Jaboulet Paralelle 45 Cotes-du-Rhone by Skurnik Wines.  We’ll be featuring both the Cotes-du-Rhone and single vineyard Crozes-Hermitage from Paul Jaboulete. It’s hard to beat a juicy Grenache-based wine or a spicy Syrah with our bone marrow...

You’ll truly be drinking for a delicious experience, and a great cause, this January. Make your Monday reservation(s) here.

Last Month Of Magnum Mondays Will Leave You Sparkling…

It’s December, and the countdown to 2019 has officially begun on Marrow Magnum Mondays at Death & Taxes. So, what could be our featured magnums this month, you ask? An abundance of bubbles, of course! Champagne, aka the official drink of celebration, will be helping us float through the holiday season, and most importantly, assist bringing in the new year!

We’ll be pairing these bottles of bubbles with our featured embered bone marrow for an over-the-top experience:

On December 3rd, look for Laherte-Freres Ultradition Brut. This 7th generation, family-run house makes wines with distinction and personality which is exciting to taste, and a great launch to our sparkling month.

On December 10th, we’ll be featuring two varietals of Champagne in the Brut family: the Aubry Brut  & Laurent Perrier Cuvée Le Brut.  Experience the difference between a well-established Champagne house making consistently beautiful wines, from classic varieties and an up-and-coming Champagne grower making seriously complex wines from Champagne’s forgotten varieties.

On December 17th, it’ll be a classic evening, highlighting one of the oldest Champagne houses: Lanson. This producer continues to make improvements to the quality and production of their wines creating fresh, elegant styles with loads of complexity.  Tonight the flavorful Black Label and the beautifully floral Rosé are both by the glass!

On December 24th, Christmas Eve, we’ll finish out our Magnum Monday 2018 year with grandeur! We’ll be featuring Pierre Moncuit Cuvee Moncuit-Delos Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru (can you say that five times fast?!) This wine is made from 100% Chardonnay grown in the best vineyards in Champagne. Grab a friend and treat yourself to some calm before the storm tomorrow. You deserve it!

Passport To Giving!

We're always looking for ways to give back to our community, especially during this season of giving!

Our Passport to Giving campaign is a great way to support a very important cause--the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina--while you're out enjoying meals at our restaurants! We’ve created a special feature cocktail at Poole’s, Poole'side, Death & Taxes, Beasley’s, Chuck's, and Fox Liquor Bar; and $2 from each purchase of one of these cocktails will be donated to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina—from now through December 31st. So every time you drink one of these cocktails, you’re effectively donating $2 to support feeding those affected by hunger in our state. How great is that!?

This year, each of our cocktail names has been inspired by a holiday flick. Here are the cocktails:

At Poole’s, try the Ya Filthy Animal, named forHome Alone, featuring gin, Montenegro, cranberry, rosemary, ginger, and lemon.

At Poole'side, try the You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out, named for A Christmas Story, featuring bourbon, roasted pecans, vanilla, cinnamon cherry clove bitters.

At Beasley’s, try the Smiling Is My Favorite, named for Elf, featuring vodka, blackberry, thyme, lemon, sparkling wine.

At Chuck's, try the Yippee Ki Yay shake, named for Die Hard, a white chocolate peppermint milkshake with white rum.

At Death & Taxes, try the Cousin Eddie, named for Christmas Vacation, featuring bourbon, Maker’s Mark, dry vermouth, Angostura and orange bitters.

At Fox Liquor Bar, try the Total Agony of Being In Love, named for Love Actually, featuring scotch, sweet vermouth, Cheerwine, and orange.

To maximize our impact as a community, we're organizing a self-guided bar crawl! Grab a Passport to Giving card (available at any of our restaurants) and get a stamp for each of the 6 cocktails you try. If you complete the full crawl and get all 6 stamps on your passport card, you can redeem your Passport to Giving card at Fox Liquor Bar for a complimentary snack--Milk and Chocolate Chip Cookies--our way of saying thanks for supporting our team efforts to raise money for the Food Bank! We'll also enter your name into a drawing to win a $250 gift card to the AC Restaurants location of your choice.

So start your engines! It's time to drink for a good cause!

Beaujolais Nouveau

It’s the holiday season, alright. But here’s a day worth celebrating that you may not be aware of: November 15th. That’s Beaujolais Nouveau Day, highly anticipated by French wine lovers across the world. On the third Thursday of every November in Beaujolais, wineries release the very first bottles of the new harvest. These young, easy-drinking expressions of Gamay are popped and enjoyed in restaurants and gatherings all over France.

But who says France gets to have all the fun?! On this Thursday, November 15th at Death & Taxes , we’re throwing a little Beaujolais party of our own, with three Beaujolais Nouveau offerings available by the glass, plus features from the kitchen inspired by Burgundy.

The menu? Think embered duck liver mousse, steak frites, and a wood-fire influenced play on coq au vin.

And here are the Beaujolais offerings we’ll be pouring by the glass:

  • Domaine Foretal Beaujolais Nouveau 2018
  • Laurence et Remi Dufaitre Beaujolais-Villages Nouveau 2018
  • Jean-Paul Brun Vieilles Vignes Beaujolais Nouveau 2018 (out of 3-liter)

Want to join? Make a reservation here. There’s no prefixe or ticket, just an opportunity to dine with us and be the first to taste the 2018 vintage of Beaujolais.

À bientôt!
