Hopscotch Hours and Offerings

IMG_2959.JPG

Tomorrow, the Hopscotch Music Festival returns to downtown Raleigh, and we couldn’t be more pumped! As you frolic between shows, we hope you’ll stop in and visit us for concert-going sustenance. Here's the rundown of hours and offerings within the AC Restaurants universe.

Poole’s Diner

Open nightly from 5pm to midnight. Join us for a post-show macaroni au gratin at the bar, or try our latest feature, steak carpaccio with onion rings, marinated peppers and béarnaise aioli. Follow @poolesdiner to keep up with weekend offerings

Joule Coffee & Table

Open daily from 7am to 7pm. As in past years, we’re excited to feature our Hopscotch inspired cocktail menu through the weekend! We’re also offering a few selected grab-and-go food items at the coffee counter for those on the move. Think biscuit sandwiches and pimento cheese on buttermilk bread. And don't forget the matcha lemonade! Follow @joule_raleigh to keep up with weekend offerings.

Death & Taxes

Open Thursday thru Saturday from 5pm to 11pm, Sunday from 5 pm to 10 pm. Make your reservation here, or just walk on in—we always reserve our kitchen counter seats for walk-ins. Follow @deathandtaxesnc to keep up with weekend offerings.

Fox Liquor Bar

On Friday, Fox turns FIVE! Come celebrate with our latest tapped cocktail, white sangria, featuring apple brandy, white wine, and ginger. We’ll also be pouring Ferrari shots from the tap, plus all the other cocktail favorites. Open daily from 5 pm to 2 am. Follow @foxliquorbar to keep up with weekend offerings.

Please note: Fox Liquor Bar will be closed on Monday, September 12th

Meet the Team: Tal Collins

talcollins2

To celebrate #5yearsofcornershop, we wanted to introduce some of the awesome team members that make the place what it is. Say hi to them the next time you come in!

Name: Tal Collins

Job: Barback & Server at Fox Liquor

Hometown: Atkinson, New Hampshire

How long have you worked at the Cornershop? 5 months

What do you like about your job? I like that the people who work here really care about that craft that goes into the cocktails, and the service that we provide to our guests. This is my first job in hospitality, and I like that I work at a place that cares on a deeper level.

When you’re not working, you’re probably...Downtown, drinking with friends at various restaurants and bars. I also like to play and dabble in game development.

What would you tell a visitor to do while in Raleigh? After hitting up Fox, visit some of the other great cocktail bars—Foundation, C Grace, Haymaker, for example.

What’s your favorite thing on the menu? I love the Duke of Paraguay (no longer on the menu, but still available on request). On the current menu, the Pomeranian.

Your secret talent is? Right after moving here I got into making homemade ice cream, and work has influenced that, so I’ve started adding booze to my ingredients list. My favorite is extremely simple, but also so delicious—brown sugar, maple syrup, rum.

Want to work with us? Apply here.

Job: Bartender at Fox

Hometown: Raleigh, NC

How long have you worked at the Cornershop? 1 year (before that I was at Death & Taxes)

Favorite team memory? One night, the entire staff of a bar in Winston Salem came down, and we spent the night talking with them about drinks and hospitality—it was cool to see this general interest in bettering the industry, and that other bartenders were using Fox as a model.

What do you like about your job? I love making cocktails that are unique, that offer a new experience. It’s always exciting coming in to work—being able to nerd out on cocktails with the other bartenders, bounce ideas off each other, learn new things.

When you’re not working, you’re probably...Reading cocktail books (right now I’m really into vermouth, so reading a bunch about that, how it’s changed over time, how it varies between cultures), or playing video games (Overwatch, currently).

What would you tell a visitor to do while in Raleigh? I'd tell them to stop by all the local cocktail joints, spots like Gallo Pelon and Foundation...we have lots of great bartenders and talent around Raleigh, and everyone has a different experience to offer.

What’s your favorite thing on the menu? My current favorite drink at Fox is the Grimm and Bear it—it's fruity, bitter, and boozy all at once, and hits so many aspects of your palate. Upstairs at Beasley's, I get what I like to call the Fatboy Bowl: I order the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy, but sub in fried chicken for meatloaf and add shredded cheese. [Editor's note: DANG!]

Your secret talent is? I do graphic and web design on the side.

The Cornershop Turns Five!

It’s hard to believe it, but Beasley’s Chicken + Honey turned five last week, and Chuck’s and Fox Liquor Bar will follow in September. Our team collectively refers to these three spots as The Cornershop: though they each operate independently, the close proximity (they literally share one kitchen) means that the hardworking teams frequently collaborate and multi-task between spots.

So over the next few weeks (until September) we’re celebrating the Cornershop as a whole, by highlighting some of the team members, sharing a few off-the-menu items that we love, and reminiscing on this special place by asking you for your best Cornershop stories. In the process, we’ll be offering a few special giveaways to thank our regulars and supporters for sticking with us and becoming part of the Cornershop family. Here’s how you can join the festivities:

Eat Your Way Through the Hall of Fame

From now through September 11, we’ll be offering a special “hall of fame” item at each shop. Those who post Instagram photos of any Hall of Fame item with the hashtag #5yearsofcornershop will be entered to win a dinner at Beasley’s for 4 people with Ashley Christensen.

  • cornershop5year_chickenBeasley’s: The OG Chicken Sandwich Fried chicken thigh on a potato roll with shredded iceberg lettuce, and special sauce
  • cornershop5year_pimentoburgerChuck’s: The Pimento Burger Flat-top seared patty with melted pimento cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise
  • kentuckymaid_KaitlynGoalenFox: The Kentucky Maid Bourbon, lime juice, cucumber, mint

Tell Us Your Cornershop Story!

Got a great story about Beasley’s, Chuck’s or Fox? We want to hear it! We’ll be sharing your best stories throughout the coming weeks by emailing us at cornershopstories@ac-restaurants.com.

Life in the Fast Lane

Ferrari on Tap, Equal Parts Fernet Branca + Campari
Join us on Wednesday, 8.10 at Fox Liquor Bar to help us usher in the launch of our new draft cocktail program. We're starting things off with the Ferrari, made of equal parts Campari and Fernet-Branca, two bittersweet Italian liqueurs. We'll be pouring shots from the tap, as well as offering several cocktails made with this delicious combination. We'll be joined by the Fernet-Branca team, who will be handing out some super sweet swag--including a limited edition Fernet boardwalk cruiser. We'll also have DJ K-Stones in the house to spin some tunes. See you down in the foxhole.

Vroom vroom,
Team Fox
